If you are reading this, it means you have stumbled upon the blog of a girl who is just trying to figure out what life means for her. I welcome you to this blog- and whether this is your first and last visit, or the start of a long-term relationship: I hope you can find something in here that helps either inspire you, or make you stop and think, or at least help you to smile today!

There is so much pressure about your first blog post: what are you going to talk about? What if your ideas cause controversy or anger,? Maybe nobody is going to read this post and it was all this hard work for nothing! And you know what? all of that will probably come true at one point or another- and it took me a long time to realize that IT IS OK! With that being said- I am really excited to start this blog of with a bang!
My First Blog about My Life At College
So- everyone says that college is some of the best years of someone's life. Those people obviously have never gone- because it is all homework and exams, and reading textbooks, and writing papers, or even sometimes blogging about topics you learned (you will see some of those for the next few weeks as the course I am taking is requiring that I post what I learned). And let me tell you- it is HARD. There are so many nights where I feel like I am drowning in homework (and since school started a week ago, that should tell you something).... but honestly- I wouldn't rather be doing anything else, and I will tell you why. It is the most rewarding feeling, to be getting an education on a topic I am passionate about and knowing that I will, later in life, be able to pass along that knowledge to others in order to help enrich there lives.
Plus, I wont lie- it is super fun to be an adult and go have late nights out with friends, and have fun with roommates that want to just hangout and cook together. It is also a very humbling experience to be here in college, you learn a lot about yourself and the type of person you want to be, and how the world actually works. I got to cheat a little bit on that fact, because I lived in France for 18 months, and THAT is a learning experience that pushes you to your limits, and really gives you an appreciation for culture and how the world works. But I definitely think that college is a good in-between step from childhood dependence to adult Independence. And honestly, it is a good environment to take the time and better yourself, both educationally and personally as a person.
It also is a good place to learn what your moral compass points to. To find what you think is important in life and chase after the dreams you have. You get very few opportunities in life to do those kinds of things in an environment that is controlled and safe (for the most part). You get the chance to read that book you always wanted, or fine-tune your art capacity, or learn how to build the skyscrapers you always dreamed about, while also learning how to work as a team, and finding happiness in the small things in life.
Because that is what life is made of- small things. A small moment of beauty when you're hiking and watch the sun set, a small moment of peace when the rain is too hard to go outside so you sit and read a book listening to the rain, a small moment of laughter when you and someone you just met share an embarrassing moment and can laugh about it. Life is full of these kind of moments- that often get over looked because the bad things in life seem so much bigger- but they are there, and we just need to take the time and have the patience to find them. I think all of us do that subconsciously- we all search desperately for the small things to help us get through the day and make life a little more bearable. But in the end- that is what we are all doing- trying to find a little bit of summer in our lives.
