SO this post is going to be just a little bit different because we have all been assigned a topic for our group to read up on and study. And there are starting questions that need to be answered for it- so here we go!
What is your topic?
so my topic is suicide and loneliness
What are your initial thoughts and feelings about the subject?
initially, I thought and felt that this is a topic that will be relate able and hit close to home for a lot of people. SO it makes me both excited to bring more awareness to it, and also i feel like it is a big responsibility to bring the right light to it.
How familiar are you with this topic?
as a psych major, i have become very used to this topic and have become familiar in talking about it and dealing with it.
Whether you have or haven't dealt with this issue before, if it effected you or a close family member, how would you begin to go about living life with the challenge? Where would you go to find resources for help? How might you look for spiritual help and guidance?
Living life with a death of any kind in the family is something extremely difficult to cope with, but to handle the situation would take a lot of faith, and patience, and love/support from those around us. I would recommend to go to the church counselors and support groups both within and without the church to help cope as well. Finally I would say try to go to the temple a lot to fill the spiritual need of acceptance of the situation.
Have you or any close family members or friends faced these challenges before? What have you (or they) done to keep their faith strong while dealing with these difficulties?
I have, thankfully, not been faced with this situation in my life, nor has anyone close to me dealt with this situation either.
Find and paste 3 links to sites that may be able to give you helpful, credible information for facing this challenge. In addition to these links, please write a sentence or two of why you chose the site, how could it help you deal with the problem.
At least one of the sites must have spiritual help and guidance,
https://www.lds.org/get-help/suicide/?lang=eng
With this website, it can lead you to many different topics regarding suicide and how to cope with it. It has links to every stage of someone thinking about/committing suicide.
one must have resources of help that are from a non-religious standpoint,
https://suicidepreventionlifeline.org/
I love this link because it is the first one that pops up when you type in "suicide help". It is also government sponsored which shows that there is scientific proof behind their methods of helping.
and the third is your choice.
https://www.nextavenue.org/loneliness-isolation-age/
I like this one, because it is important to remember that this happens at all ages, and just because you get older doesnt make it any less real of a situation.
Finally, find one scripture that would give comfort to someone who has the challenge and wonders why God would allow it to happen. Write any other thoughts with this scripture (as if you were giving comfort to yourself or family member on a future day).
Ephisians 3:17- That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love,
I love that scripture because love can fix anything- I firmly believe in that, and Christ is pure love. And therefore He can fix everything if you let Him. Which can adamantly be difficult if you aren't prepared to let Him in. And in loving Him, we will one day find peace again.
