"WE WARN that individuals who violate covenants of chastity, who abuse spouse or offspring, or who fail to fulfill family responsibilities will one day stand accountable before God. Further, we warn that the disintegration of the family will bring upon individuals, communities, and nations the calamities foretold by ancient and modern prophets."
It seems like violating covenants of chastity and abuse are self-explanatory, but what do you think failing "to fulfill family responsibilities" means?
This is a really interesting question and one, that i personally think, gets over-looked. To fail in fulfilling your family responsibilities means that you are unable to provide the necessities for your children: safety, food, warmth, and love. If you cant give them that- then you are not being the best parent you can be. And sometimes, it means having to make the hardest decisions to provide for your children- but as the parent, that is what needs to happen.
Look up the word "Calamity," and copy and paste what you find. Why do you think that the Proclamation uses that word?
an event causing great and often sudden damage or distress; a disaster. I think they use this word because it is very similar to how the Adversary works, to destroy us. He starts off with really minute and quiet details to steer a nation or a person in the wrong direction, and then all at once he will hit you with the hard stuff that comes you way in life, and because your foundation isn't strong anymore, you fall hard and fast, and it is hard to come back from that.
Read Doctrine and Covenants 1:17. How does that verse relate to what is in the Proclamation?
Both this verse and the proclamation talk about the calamities that are going to come to us in the future, and if we dont prepare ourselves for it, we will succumb to it. Jesus Christ knew that and gave us a prophet in these latter days to help prepare us for it.
What does the Lord mean by the "disintegration" of the family? What are some modern examples (be specific)? Why would the disintegration of the family lead to such disastrous consequences?
To disintegrate means to break up into small parts as a result of impact or decay. It can also mean to be weakened. I think that is all good synonyms for what it means when your morals are non-existent. if you don't care about something, or care for it, eventually it will fade into nothing. The same thing happens for families. if they fall apart then society as we know wills tart to crumble. We were built to survive in units, and those units form bonds of trust and love- without which you will eventually peak in your progression as a human.
